Sustainable Tiny House
The owner’s lifestyle
was the perfect inspiration for designing this sustainable tiny house. From the very beginning, Aurelio dreamed of a place where the family could unwind on weekends, come back from surfing, fire up the grill, and enjoy time with friends. The idea was simple but meaningful: let nature do its thing by using sunlight, natural ventilation, and even collected water to keep the vegetation thriving.
With that in mind, we imagined the ideal beach house eco‑friendly, efficient, and designed for a life shaped by the coast, from kayak fishing at dawn to afternoons spent surfing and enjoying the easy rhythm of the beach.
A home sustained by nature
Night‑time lighting is powered by solar panels that store energy during the day, ensuring efficient and eco‑friendly illumination. Inside, all lighting is provided by LED fixtures, offering low energy consumption and long‑lasting performance. For the landscaping, rainwater is collected in a storage tank and used to irrigate the plants, helping keep the vegetation healthy while minimizing water waste.
The Stubbornness that Built a Beach House
In 2014, Aurelio contacted me for the first time with a request I will never forget: “Carolina, I want a beach house and my budget is $10,000.” My immediate response was “Impossible,” as he was a stubborn client with aquaculture experience who quickly proved it could be done. And he was right: 80% of the house could be built with recycled wood; the real cost came from the PVC window framing and the fishing‑sector roofing, resistant to sea breeze corrosion and perfect for bringing natural light inside. Managing the tight budget and delivering the drawings on schedule was a real challenge, but it pushed me to be resourceful. Looking back, the pressure and problem‑solving still leave me with a quiet, satisfied smile.
