Located in the northern sector of Guayaquil, the Villa España housing development, part of the Mucho Lote municipal initiative, offers a series of compact, standardized homes designed to meet the city’s demand for accessible family housing. Within this context, my role involved reimagining one of these residences in the Valencia stage, transforming its interior layout to better suit the specific needs of its occupants. The intervention focused on creating personalized, functional spaces while maintaining full compliance with municipal regulations. On the exterior, the redesigned façade breaks subtly yet decisively from the repetitive rhythm of the surrounding units, introducing a vibrant palette of terracotta and orange tones that complement the clay cladding and bring a more expressive architectural identity to the home without disrupting the harmony of the streetscape.
The project arrived as a bare concrete shell, a condition that allowed for the strategic demolition of interior walls to unify spaces and execute extensions on the upper‑floor slab. The intervention included enlarging the master bedroom and incorporating a walk‑in wardrobe to enhance storage and improve the functionality of the private area. The kitchen was reconfigured into an open, brighter space, featuring a granite‑clad countertop that adds durability and visual character. On the upper floor, a new TV room was introduced, creating an additional social area for the family. The entire alteration process was developed from conceptualisation to technical definition, producing the construction and municipal drawings required for proper execution and approval.
The renovation incorporated clay tile cladding across the façade, staircase, and selected interior walls, introducing a rustic texture that contrasts beautifully with the home’s concrete structure. This material choice adds warmth and depth to the overall composition, softening the rigidity of the original framework while creating a more inviting and personalised atmosphere. The result is a harmonious blend of solidity and comfort where raw structure meets handcrafted detail, giving the home a distinct identity within its urban context.
